Hey guys very new to collecting in this field and need all the information, opinions, and thoughts on this US Army Air Corp Uniform i picked up for 25 bucks. Whatever you guys can share with me is awesome. The Manufacturer tag says October 12, 1940. It's missing the front buttons but I have some original buttons to put on. I think the lining on the inside of the jacket is gone, is that something I should replace or just leave? It seems to be in really good shape with no moth holes or molding. I think pretty good shape for being 80 years old.

    Best Regards,

    Calloway

Looks good, and I think the price was good, by the way I don't believe it's missing it's lining as I think it was made that way in order to conserve resources during the war.

    You did good on $25.
He is Army Air Force and that patch on the lower right sleeve is his engineer specialist patch.
What you need is the left lapel pin. That will be the button with a set of wing/propeller.
    They are easy to find.

I'm not sure about the elastic bands on the back. First time seeing them like that , But would make for a nice fit when worn.
Possibly done by a tailor to make it fit better.

It looks like a laundry number on the collar. Could you post a better pic of that. It helps researching the name.

    Colloway,

This is a nice pre WW2 US Army 4 pocket tunic. These were the standard issue dress uniforms as well as field uniforms from the very late 1930s and 40s before the standard combat uniform fatigues were issued. The lining is not missing in this particular uniform. Based on the cut of the uniform and what I am seeing with the insides this version had pleats in the back by the shoulders.

This uniform was replaced by the more common 2 pocket "Ike Jacket" that many GIs preferred by the end of World War Two, But for many who did not want to turn in these uniforms or simply due to lack of supply, this uniform stood the test of time and upon discharge the Soldier chose to wear this as his "mustering out" uniform as indicated by the Honorable Discharge insignia sewn above the pocket. Has the standard ARMY AIR FORCES Shoulder insignia and the engineering specialist insignia on the lower sleeve. He is wearing sergeant stripes and has a 3 year service hash mark.. It would appear that this person served stateside during the war. (Another indicator that the Ike Jacket would most likely not have been worn, as in many cases it indicated wartime service overseas for an individual, BUT not all the time, some soldiers just preferred the 4 pocket older suit coat style dress over the shorter sportscoat Ike Jacket)... It looks as if there is a serial number on the inside. It may be possible to trace..

A very nice looking jacket for a good price..

It looks like Smitty and I were typing at the same time. For once I was a bit faster with my finger picking typing skills
Here is the AAF lapel pin that you need to get to complete the look.

The buttons should not be a problem . You should be able to find some on ebay. But make sure they are the larger jacket buttons and not the pocket which are smaller.

I look forward to seeing it all dressed up
