    Default WW2 US marine uniform!

Hi Ive had this uniform for about 1 year and a half. The other day I took it out to look at it and checked the pockets and found the ribbon bar and medal. We thought it was unissued but with better inspection it had corporal patches and a diamond marine patch also two rows of ribbons not one. Its not named but my friends going to contact and friend who got it from a friend and maybe we can find this guys name and division hopefully well be able to piece it back together. The star - worn only on the ribbon bar - represents a clasp or device
for service outside the CONUS, including Alaska and Hawaii, which
would be worn on the full size American Defense Medal.

Full size medals are only worn on Dress uniform. This is a
Service uniform - put it back in the pocket.........!

I think CONUS means 'Continental United States', although it does sound like a description of part of the reproductive organs of some animal...

Check the interior liner of the jacket, specifically in the sleeve (near the shoulder area). There should be a quartermaster stamp (Philadelphia Depot for example) and a date (41-42). In addition, the Marines name should be stamped or handwritten in this area. Usually the initials of his first and middle name and his full last name. There may even be more than one Marines name as these were regularly reissued.

You should be able to use this to search USMC Muster Rolls. You can also send away to NPRC for his service record.

Let us know what you find!

The star is worn only on the ribbon bar.

Steve is of course 100% correct, however if more info is needed, you can read up on what a service star on the American Defense medal represents (under the category Devices):
