this a Australian army used helmet.
the liner is Australian made but the helmet shell is US.
I can not with out force take the liner out as the aus liners had a very thick sand in the paint and this will pull all the camo off. the tape around the chin strap would make it easy to take on and off.
from what I have been told the Australian m1 was used right up to the late 90s and early 2000s

Please correct me if I am wrong, the second pair of numbers in the white stamped NSN number represents the country of origin/manufacture. Australia's number is 66 and 50 is Bulgaria according to Wiki. Looks like we did a bulk purchase from Bulgaria?? Or did the numbers change?
Does anyone know when these helmets first appeared in Australia? I have a couple myself.
You have a good looking helmet there Geelong.

Got my helmet out for a look. It has "CAT. No." before the NSN.
The heat stamp under the peak shows R over FB. Anyone recognise that?
Apologies for jumping in your post Geelong.

My Aussie M1 to add to Geelong's thread.
Mine's a '50' too. The heat stamp looks like DF and looks like the shell was used for digging a hole there are so many scratches & dirt!!

    Cheers, Dan
