Does anyone know these markings on this M-1

I got this from a German man who his dad was a great hunter. He had recently past. I am not sure where exactly it was found, but guessing somewhere in Germany. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Can't help you out with the symbol, but I'd check out photos of US troops during the early 50's when that helmet was used and you might get lucky.
