Newbie to the forum here. Bought an Vietnam era M1 and need some info please.

Rolled seam with M 337 C heat stamp @ front of helmet. The shell is painted a medium brown inside and out. The cover is a woodland camo with no markings and looks like it was made for a kevlar hemet but isn't.

Liner has manufacture mark in center that looks like a cross with a backwards Firestone "F" and "23" on the right.

Any info is very helpful. Thanks.

Was just wondering if the brown paint is original to US made helmets of the Vietnam era.

they were normally green as with all US made M-1s as far as i know there were no units that painted their lids brown. if you can provide pictures that would be a good idea.

As Nick says, a photo or two would help tremendously. Takes away most, if not all of the speculation. Looking forward to seeing any that you post, as it sounds intriguing based upon your description of it being brown.
