M-1 White Stripe question

Article about: I realize this is not a WWII m-1 helmet...most likely Vietnam or post-Nam. Anyway, does anyone know what the white strip on this helmet signifies. My guess is that it is a training helmet..

    Better pictures would help, but it looks like tape residue? It was/is common to have tape on helmets during training in certain schools. Like basic, or Airborne, Air Assault, etc.. Or, it could be for certain duties that NCO's fulfill such as instructor, OC, range safety and so on. Lots of possibilities.

    My issued M1 at Airborne School at Fort Benning in 1979, had the same placement for the white stripe, and "C96" stencilled in the white stripe. Semper Fi
