I believe this lid has been altered. The straps look new, ( repro )
and the liner looks like a later type that was 'cut-to-fit',
from the look of the webbing.........

Logo is for: 2 Rangers Battalion.

Agree with wolf, 2 is a ranger thing, I think regiment (or battalion). Rear seams began production in 1944, heat stamp can help date it. Is shell cork texture? (photo does not show it)
If i recall correctly rear seams didnt make it to the ETO.
Liner webing inside is post war.

    Looks likea restored grouping.

Cork is hard to explain, chunck sand? Tomarrow i ll try to post up pictures of the differents between cork and sand. If it feels like a regular sand finish(that you see these days), then it sand.
it a post war grouping, put together. like chris said

gday Brad, i agree with everyone else this helmet looks put together, the chinstrap looks new and the OD green webbing on the liner looks post ww2
there is a lot of tribute 2nd rangers stuff for sale since saving private ryan. i have a fake captain miller helmet i got on ebay which looks cool but is unfortunately not ww2.......original U.S. helmets from ww2 with painted insignia are getting expensive

The liner has had all the outside surface paint removed. There should be a mark
inside the liner at the center of the crown. Look for the shell's lot number
on the inside front rim - where the metal begins to curve.

The movie 'Saving Private Ryan' has produced a lot of interest in the
2 Rangers Battalion, and therefore a lot of repro helmets.

Still, I like the aged look of it, and wouldn't mind it myself.
It seems there was a net on it at some point.........

Paul beat me to it......... !
    Regards,

    Steve.
