    Hi friends,

this one is listed on ebay:

    M1, Navy? ww2?

    M1, Navy? ww2?

    M1, Navy? ww2?

    M1, Navy? ww2?

    M1, Navy? ww2?

    M1, Navy? ww2?

    M1, Navy? ww2?

    M1, Navy? ww2?

Would it be a navy lid? and is the liner correct (there's no hole on the front)?

And is it ww2 period? (the inside of the liner looks good to me, but the outside I've never seen before)

    Thank you in advance!

    Cheers, Mads

looks like a late ww2 rear seam m1 shell ? same goes for the liner too but have never seen it before .some of the other members will be able to tell you more as it may not be ww2 and i could be incorrect .regards

It does look like a Navy lid, though the colours in the photographs are awful, but there certainly is enough rust! Being a rear seam, it is possible that it was made in the WW2 era, but if you want absolute WW2, it has to be a front seam helmet.
The liner looks about the right age to match the helmet, with the sweatband added later. As already mentioned it has the motto of an Army Drill Sergeant, and it is also the motto of the US Army Department.

    Department of the Army Emblem

So, a bit unlikely to be original to a Navy lid.
Personally, I'd hang around for a better one to come along.

I would hazard a guess and say it is Vietnam era or later,
judging by the colour of the interior paint.........
