looks like a late ww2 rear seam m1 shell ? same goes for the liner too but have never seen it before .some of the other members will be able to tell you more as it may not be ww2 and i could be incorrect .regards
i was looking on the net at "this well defend " and got this U.S. Military Instructor Badges - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia it must be a army drill instructor liner ? .cheers
Thanks for for info on the badge.
Any opinions on the shell? It really looks like navy to me, but doesnt fit very well to the liner?

i really cant say its very rusty like its seen life on a boat but i have seen non navy helmets like this too.you should ask for a heat stamp if possible too .cheers !
It does look like a Navy lid, though the colours in the photographs are awful, but there certainly is enough rust! Being a rear seam, it is possible that it was made in the WW2 era, but if you want absolute WW2, it has to be a front seam helmet.
The liner looks about the right age to match the helmet, with the sweatband added later. As already mentioned it has the motto of an Army Drill Sergeant, and it is also the motto of the US Army Department.
Department of the Army Emblem
So, a bit unlikely to be original to a Navy lid.
Personally, I'd hang around for a better one to come along.

i personally agree with Andy .regards
I would hazard a guess and say it is Vietnam era or later,
judging by the colour of the interior paint.........
Regards,
Steve.
i agree with that also the paint job inside looks late/post vietnam
It looks like a high dome lid in the first pic?
