    Default McCord lot no. >1400??

This may have been up before, but I just read this little piece now. Final report from Watertown arsenal lab. on ballistic on the M1 helmets. Basically shooting a 1911 at various m1 helmets and see what is does. Final report is from 30 Jan 1945.
But what caught my eye was page 31 & 33. Page 31 lists McCord lot no just short of 1400, but look at page 33, 1400-1500-1600 numbers!!! This is Jan 1945!!

Very interesting if you ask me!

It’s say McCord Corps no. It seems to indicate heat stamp but do we know for sure. Nice find, I’m going to look into it more.

It might be special McCord numbers. I read it several times now. In appendix they use Carnegie actual heat & lift number on disc’s - batch A,B,C (tho C is apperently not received, but it is listed in previous communications). They are unpainted, thus Carnegie actual heat/lift number can be seen. The same is true for helmet batch D and E. They too are unpainted, thus this number can still be read. Helmet batch F, G & H are painted so McCord stamped lot numbers are used, as Carnegie heat/lift no more can be seen.
On helmet batch J and K both listed as unpainted, they dont Carnegie number, as one would expect? Instead batch J simply says Carnegie steel. Batch K list high McCord numbers, which would not be needed if Carnegie number was visible? Strange. Apparently this steel has no Carnegie number and McCord numbers are special? But they are actual helmets, as a J helmet is on photo.

Ahh just noticed that the K4 helmet is on photo too, and it is painted in white with the McCord number listed 1565. Looks like special McCord numbers, tho it does not exclude it actual Beeing stamped with it also.
Makes me wonder tho, if there McCord helmets out there, without either stamped McCord number, or even Carnegie steel heat/lift number (can only be seen if unpainted), it is possible that is gets discarded as a simple m1 clone, but really is a super rare special production. Think about that! Lol

I think they're individually-numbered helmets. I didn't see any repeated numbers in the list which you'd expect if they were lots.
