    Hello friends of M1 helmets
    Ive bought this wonderful M1 WW2 shell for 40€
    It is a frontseam WW2 type made by mccord (Lot 215B)
    It is deformed at all
    The shell was named to a Jack K. Monteith with service number 34774272
    The shell was found in a barn
    The complete paint was still in good shape
    Enjoy it
    If anyone know more about the Soldier who owned this shell, let it me know
    I want know who he was

    Just a quick run down of what you have here: The Soldier is from North Carolina, he was born in 1924. He enlisted in the Army on May 3, 1943 at Camp Croft, South Carolina. His period of enlistment was for 5 years. He was married and his civilian occupation was in the carpentry field..

    Here is some more information:

    Jack K. Monteith, 93 of Aurora passed away Tuesday October 17, 2017 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. Jack was born Saturday July 19, 1924 in Spindale, NC the son of Joseph and Laura Monteith. He married Etta Godfrey Monteith in 1942 and she passed 1997, later he met Thelma Monteith and got married in 2002 and she survives. He served his country having served in the US Army. He had been an over the road truck driver for many years. Jim was a member of the Holman Christian Union Church and Milan American Legion Post # 235. He enjoyed playing cards, dancing, traveling, fishing, woodworking and spending time with his family.


    With the information provided you may be able to request his records from the National Archives and you may discover what unit he was in..

    Thanks a lot
    As said his helmetshell was found near the biggest Landingoperation during WW2
    I think to have more information of an item and who owned it was there is great
    I hope to find the unit out
    This is yet my third named helmet and all of them had a history
    What the soldiers must have seen there
    I think to have information is good to preserve the history
    I hope you see it like me

    I agree with you 100% about preserving the history. Many of these veterans are no long living and to better tell the story of an item such as the helmet you posted, it is important to try and find out who the Soldier wearing that helmet was...

    I hope that you will be able to find out more information through the National Archives..
