    Hi everyone, picked this M1 up recently, Not my usual area so have a couple of questions if i may?
    The helmet shell is i think an Ingersoll? dating it to the mid 60's??
    The liner is obviously dated '73
    so its (almost) late Nam period.
    Its the cover im struggling with, what exactly is it?

    It looks to be a woodland cover from the 1980's

    It's an ERDL (Engineers Research Development Laboratories)-pattern cover, the first experimental ones were made in 1969 but they are generally considered to be a post-Vietnam item and were in use till the M1 helmet was replaced by the new kevlar PASGT helmet in the mid 1980's. In the early 1980's the similar but not identical Woodland-pattern was introduced and there are M1 covers in this pattern too.

    You should be able to see the date on the inside of one of the flaps.
    This example is dated 1989.
