Default Post WW2 Helmet Re-paint Colours

Can anyone throw any light, please, on the re-paint practices of the US Army post WW2 and, more specifically, from about 1960 to the 1980s? I have come across, over recent years, examples of shells overpainted gloss brownish olive and others a flat, dark bluish green. These are usually associated with liners from the 70s and 80s. Also, within these two general descriptions, I have noted considerable variation. Does anyone have any reliable info on US Army policy regarding this? For example, is it known that any green colour to hand could be used - eg vehicle colours? Are any of these identifiable as coded olive greens? Any comments much appreciated. Thanks.
