SO how did they keep the liner in?
I'm looking at my Nam-era lid, with the strap round the back of the lid as was the norm. And wondering how the liner keeps in place? Did they use the liner strap and pull this over the visor as in KW/WW2? If so i havent seen this in any of the old pics. Any ideas or did the GI's just put up with it?

Re: SO how did they keep the liner in?
I thnk your asking the wrong question mate....it was more a case of how do i pull this liner out with a mitchell cover doing a wedgy on the bloody thing, brute force was the answer....regards Dave.

Re: SO how did they keep the liner in?
my nam m1c helmet has an extended chinstrap which is fixed with poppers onto the liner at both sides

Re: SO how did they keep the liner in?
Perhaps you have a mis-matched set ? It should fit
relatively snug into the shell and the vacuum
it creates holds it in.........

Re: SO how did they keep the liner in?
A WW2 liner is a bit clumsy in a Nam lid.

Re: SO how did they keep the liner in?
Interesting - so I have a 1970 liner sat in a 1960s shell, with Mitchell cover, the liner pushes in snug but in no way is it a tight fit or a vacumn like fit - if I hold the helmet by the rim, the liner would likely drop out. I'll try another earlier liner from my other helmet and see if thats different.

Re: SO how did they keep the liner in?
I suppose the idea is that a helmet is meant to be worn,
and so gravity holds it in place. I have a Vietnam era
lid/liner combo that is extremely loose as well,
but it doesn't bother me.........

Re: SO how did they keep the liner in?
It does sound to me as though you have a mis-matched set,the two should fit snuggly together without a cover on and fit tightly together with one. When a cover gets wet and the material expands slightly you won't even be able to get the liner back out untill the material has dried!!
