Er...what's it made of, is it Metal or resin?

I would like to see the inside of this helmet ,especially the hinge area.Surely if it's US it will have a Heat stamp, might be worth checking this out.

I go with Nick, experimental model!

Lol Nick you beat me too it on this one

made in limited numbers with the idea being to increase the side protection of the helmet.

BTW Carlson a very nice and lucky find, flak helmets are not exactly common so very well done on this experimental model.

Thumbs up Re: Us helmet question

    Experimental X-51 Combat Helmet

The X-51 was a design failure but several ideas and lessons learned contributed to today's modern combat helmet.
The Experimental X-51 was a great looking helmet that suffered from severe design flaws. The shell was made from aluminum and was very large. In airborne tests it was nearly impossible to keep the helmet in place. The chinstrap was very different with a large ball and hook type setup.

experimental helmets are very rare, it would be nice to find the correct liner for it
