Default US M3 Air Crew Helmet - Unissued

This M3 helmet was never issued and retains virtually all its flock covering. The liner headband has never been set or sized. The marking 404 is curious as there was a 404th Bombardment Squadron that flew B24's out of the Aleutian Islands. Could be a reference to that outfit or an inventory number, no way to know for sure at the moment.

SHAWAGGGGGG!!!! I have never seen one with that much fuzz attached!!
Man O Man I would LOVE to have that in my collection. I would like to say someday, but that condition doesn't show up that often!!!!!
If you want to donate it to my private Museum dedicated to my Uncle Joe,it would have a place of honor and respect and you would get free admission.
    Just a thought.
    That is a beauty!!!!

That is really nice. I especially like the M3 and M4's helmets that have the flocking on them.
For those that don't know, the fuzzy flocking was on the helmet so that the cold steel of the helmet wouldn't pull off patches of bare skin if touched when at high altitudes.

Huh, I never knew that Steve. It does make a lot of sense though.
