That is a nice cover Nick - it's in really great shape !
Which side are you going to have showing ?

Been looking at these for a while now, but because
of the cost, I figure I'll just find a repro
    and age it.........
    Regards,

    Steve.

    cheers mate

im thinking about displaying it with the beach side showing as apparently this was more common during the PTO i may also show it with the EGA stamp to the back so you don't see it when on display ?

if you want a repro version shoot me a PM as i have one that i now don't need & its also already got a bit of a used look to it so its yours if you want it ?

Great find! eBay does have it's perks sometimes. Post pictures once you have it on a lid

How can you tell that the EGA is post war? Were EGAs not applied to helmet covers during WWII?

Nope, sometime before the Korean War (Someone else will know exactly when.) all of the USMC helmet covers that were in the hands of the government had EGA's applied. The vast majority of those covers were WWII surplus, which is what this cover is.

First pattern covers had no slits for grass and whatnot.

    what ObKrieger said

what i will say is that there has been speculation as to whether EGA stamped covers were used during WW2 but the only pictures provided as proof were to poor a quality & the marks on the covers where the EGA might have been was explained away as either shadowing or dirt ?
