how to lift an M1A1 tank

Article about: Hi everyone today we changed a tortion bar on an M1A1 tank but we had to pick it up first ,, we used one M88A2 the M1A1 wieghs 68 tons , the M88A2 can lift 40 tons max if we used two M88A2 s

    Hi everyone
    today we changed a tortion bar on an M1A1 tank
    but we had to pick it up first ,, we used one M88A2
    the M1A1 wieghs 68 tons , the M88A2 can lift 40 tons max
    if we used two M88A2 s we could lift the whole tank
    we put some old road wheels under the tank for safety
    ive done this many times but this is the first time ive been alowed to take pics
    and its nice to do some real work instead of just seviceing

    oh and my moustach is growing experdentialy-- it must be the sun ,,it cant be lack of booz coz ive got loads of that

    basicly they are M48-M60 runing gear BUT not realy
    i dont know how better to describe it

    personaly i cant think of a better job
    LOADS of money for doing a job that I LOVE
    what more could a man ask for

    Do you have to loosen the track tension to do that job Ian?..

    no ,, the rear 3 suspention units are pushed near to there stops ,so that gives inof slack in the tracks to be able to do the job
    however ,, you do have to remove 4-6 track guides to be able to remove the road wheels

    its very much the same as doing a tortion bar on a CVRT ,,or WORRIOR,,except for the track guides that is

    yes Gunny very ,,, but i hope of interest to those who never get to see or work on tanks
    ill put more on as time goes ,,thies tanks are still new so nothing nice has gone wrong YET
    im looking foward to engine and trancmition re builds
    final drives,, that sort of loverly job that makes the grey matter work
    a gas turbine engine is a piece of we we to re build
