Well worth a read! I only came across this on facebook because a photographer for a local newspaper posted it on his page. The man in question (sir John Gorman) only lived about 20 miles from me and this is the first time I've heard of this. Enjoy!

I wonder if they gave this man a medal, and if so, which one? Would almost merit a VC, I would think..

Lt John Gorman was given the MC , there is a memorial to the incident just outside Cagny in Normandy . Interestingly there is a German version of this incident from one of the Tigers crew which differs from the British version !

It is a fantastic story isn't it. I was unaware of it until we stopped at the memorial on a battlefield tour, can't imagine what the Germans thought when they saw what hit them.

Thanks Tank Spotter for posting that pic. I've just read the first hand account in Sir John Gormans book "The time of my life" (page 39...it doesn't get pages and pages of coverage sadly). The "alternate ending" (German version of the incident...mentioned above) now intrigues me......presumably the Tiger travelled diagonally backwards into the M4?? I'd love to know both sides of the story.....
