Your 'L 22' is a silver grade badge, however being made of zinc
- which was a cost saving measure - all the silvering or
plating has been 'absorbed' or worn off of it.

The Third Reich had many medals and coins made of this
material just like they did in WWI, and I theorize that
if they had won the war, new awards would be
made available in precious metals, or at
least of finer quality.........
