    If I am right the badge before 1942 was silver plated and guilded.
    After 1942 were Tombak.
    This one appears to be Tombak

    That's a great looking gold badge! Usually I'm not too keen on the Gold Wound Badge... Black is my favorite, maybe because the somber look matches the nature of the award... the gold examples tend to be too gaudy for me, (though I would still love to own one! ) but this one just has more of an honest wear to it that I don't usually see on golds. Very nice!

    I think it is the other way round.............
    Tombac is earlier, and zinc is later.
