This looks like some sort of table decoration or commemorative medal as opposed to the West Wall medal we all know on the orange and white ribbon. I don't know anything about these so wait for some more opinions and a more definite ID.

Thanks for your replies guys. Since you haven't seen it again either, it must be really scarce then. But the one we know with orange/white ribbon was given widely so i would expect the same for this one too. It seems ok to me too, probably zinc made?

How does it work with the vent hole and rivets on the helmet like on a WW2 Verwundetenabzeichen? This may be a little off subject but it was this piece that made me wonder.
I take it there is no rule of thumb regarding the Maker adding those.

I like that very much and looks in great shape. Hope it's a real winner for you.

I don't think it should be confused or associated with 'the' West Wall medal. It may have absolutely nothing at all to do with the West Wall. To assume this is a common award because it happens to say Westwall in the case would be a mistake. I've never seen one before and nor has Ade (and he's seen alot!) so I would suggest some research based upon the writing on the medal before anyone can safely say how common or rare it is.

Hi Rudy, your observation is right. This helmet has no rivets, in contrast to the helmets on the Wound badges.

I'll make a search in Google Adrian and see what comes up.
