Hi, I recently purchased what was claimed to be an authentic gold wound badge, but am unsure of its authenticity due to no mfg. marks and strange backing design. If any expert here could tell me anything I would appreciate it! Thanks

Sorry but I don't like this one. This looks like a black verwundetenabzeichen painted gold. The silver and gold grades VWA are solid flat back pieces.
Here is a link to an original gold grade VWA:

Thank you for the reply. Just out of curiosity, since I have seen other badges like this just through google, do you know if this is this just a common way to fake the badge?

The fakers use more than one way to try and trick you. I think that the VWA you show is a good black grade wich has been ruined to pretend to be a gold one.
Other gold grades ones are complete fakes and are reproduced pieces. In this hobby it all comes down to details. Educate yourself, learn the details of original pieces and you will be able to detect the fakes. You have made a good first step in joining this forum.

Also, here is a link to the verwundetenabzeichen sub-forum:

Understood, how sad they butchered an original. Thank you for your insight!
