    Hi guys,
I just got this worn out wound badge together with some other stuff .
    Strange color , mm 118.
It has this ugly black thick paint on part of it, but at the same time there are remains of gold plating to be seen ....
Can I count this one as a black or a gold one ???
    Any suggestions are welcome .
    Mfg
    Marc

I would say Black. I have all three in my collection Black, Silver and gold. It is just a guess as I am no expert on these.

It's a black wound badge by August Menzs & Sohne (118) made in brass. Menzs only made two types of wound badge, both black, one in brass and the other in steel.

Thanks a lot guys . Just the small spots of gold plating, that confused me :-/ The badge is brass alright . Wonder what happened to it, to look like this !?

Ps btw are any of you aware of any book concerning solely wound badges ??

The bare brass almost looks like it's been annealed!...
