Well, there goes $100 down the drain.

I purposely posted it for comments on originality, and naturally
would have left it alone had I known ! - I'll bet there are
a lot of these L/53's sitting in our collections.........! !
    Regards,

    Steve.

yes, i'm sorry to see a bad one pop up for you.

i keep looking at it and the obverse is a dead ringer for the floch dot pattern. just no escaping it.

and you're right... they are around for sure. i see them called "original" all the time.

I agree with your comment on dealers too. Some of the largest and most
well respected in the business occasionally let some get through
    - whether they actually know or not. Nobody's perfect.........

    Steve.

Props to the dealer for taking it back. Dazza, who is the dealer if I may ask? He sounds like an honourable fellow.

I prefer not to reveal the dealer Glenn,I dont think it would be fair on him tbh...I hope you understand.Yes,he has been very honest and that is good enough for me,I fully believe he has also been duped with this one.

I am going to ask him to put the badge through a bandsaw when it arrives back!

If one good thing has come out of this is that it has brought to the surface once again the problems we all face with these Floch fakes..we ALL should be able to recognise the danger sign's now.

No harm in naming a dealer who will admit an error and put it right. I for one would prefer to buy from such a person rather than one who won't.

personally the effect on knowing the identity of a dealer who stands by his offerings as this one has can bring my business if he does not already have it.

it is not whether a dealer unknowingly has a fake in the inventory that matters. they all do eventually. what matters is how they respond to the customer when the fake is discovered.

this guy that you dealt with? he's a good dealer.

i don't say this to you to pressure you, just to make the point that i think as experienced collectors we know the good dealers from the bad and this whole process has revealed him as a good one. anonymous or not.

As requested by Steve, here's shots of mine - including a close shot of the dots at the top right sword.

    Rene, thanks for posting.

if you could do me a big favour, could you post a tight close-up of the pin showing the area where it enters the hinge and a little bit of the straight part on it's way to the catch? about the upper 1/3 of the pin basically.

it's not that i have any doubts, i just want to see some tool marks.

i'm looking for a nice, big, straight on shot of this area here:
