Article about: Hi guys, I have been offered this badge ,at first I thought it was a worn black wound badge but on looking closer it appears to me it may be a really dirty gold badge, what say ye? Cheers, D

    Hi Dave, this is a tricky one. Given the gilt in the recesses on the leaves in the wreath it does look like gold. But other parts such as the background dimples it looks black. I think I would say gold given the traces on the pin etc.

    Thanks Ade i also think its gold rather than black but i thought i was just wishful thinking cheers Dave

    Gold versions in hollow back form are less often seen. Most tend to be hollow form but with a backing plate, which makes them appear solid at first glance. (Like my example which you have seen here)
