    That's one nice wound badge!

It's known as the 'zinc massive' and was made by Mauritz Hausch A.G. The rough textured finish to the gilding and it's fine condition may make some think it's been repainted, but the texture with what almost appears like brush strokes in it both front and back is correct for this manufacturer. Whether it ha been retouched is something I can't comment on without seeing it in hand, but it may well be perfectly fine, a well preserved example. The striations are caused by the shear pressure of the die and possibly some basic hand finishing with a file to remove edge burr, and is not a problem. I like it!

    Regards, Ned.

I agree-almost certainly retouched, but still a beauty of a badge. The retouching(which is seen as slightly blotchy areas in several small spots on both sides) may even have well been period, but no way to tell. Either way, it's still a cracker of a GWB! Nice find!

Possibly had a little 'renovation' rather than repainted. The more I look at it though, the more I think it's probably 100% o.k. There may be wear on the swastika that is not currently visible due to the censoring, and you might expect to see some I think on a zinc badge after 70 years even if it was never worn, meaning it may have been put away in a drawer by the widow or next of kin of the recipient, as was often the case with GWB's and the circumstances pertaining to their bestowal.

I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

    Regards, Ned.
