    Hi,
I would like to know your opinion about the wound badge in gold marked 107. It should be late war zinc example. I did not find information if this maker even made this badge in gold. It is hard to take good pictures of gold finish which covers approx. 70% of the badge. All opinions are welcome. Thank you, Michal

    Hi

As you say a very nice original wound badge!

Not certain from these pictures if it is gold or silver but this maker definitely made gold wound badges.

    Thanks

I'm suspecting a repaint on this one.

Look at the sword blades. The chips/damage should be exposing the base metal but not here, the gold finish covers it entirely!

Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....

    Hi

    Well spotted Adrian!

    I hadn't notice that.

    Thanks

I agree with Adrian that it looks repainted, the entire badge looks to shiny. I had a wound badge that turned out to be a gold painted silver one.

I made the acetone test to discover that it was repainted.

I have made the acetone test and it is impossible to get away the gold finish.

for whatever reason this badge passes the acetone test, common sense dictates I go with Adrian on this one. the left upper sword blade damage, appearing under the gold finish as it does, makes no sense out of the context of a refinished badge.

outside of the possible refinish,a nice badge.

perhaps a repro, due to gold covered paint to hide incorrect any flaws

Below is the reverse of a silver grade '107' ( Carl Wild ) badge for hardware comparison:
