Sorry no pictures --
The other day I saw this guy with a big tattoo honoring his lat father.
The tat said Dad with his date of birth and date of death. It also
had the MAC,V patch with a airborne rocker and Ranger rocker above it.
This got me wondering. If worn on a uniform, would a macv patch with
rockers above it indicate that this guy might have been SOG or some other
shadow group or was he just a well qualified office guy?

myself around.
I see MACV patches on shirts all the time quite common to find VN era. I dont think having both ranger and airborne denotes SOG specifically but it could. He also could've been airborne qualified and later went to the Ranger School
Thank you.
Of coarse your answer makes perfect sense.
I thought just maybe some group might have been know for using
that combination. I thought it odd that he used the MAC,V patch instead
of a divisional or regimental patch.

Hi Greg
Depends on the colour of the airborne tab.
There is a MACV with Gold on Red Airborne Tab which is associated with MACV SOG members.
When 5th SF left Vietnam c 1970 elements of SOG stayed behind for counter intel ,recon and training SV Army.
The SF SSI was not authorized as the 5th had departed and the remaining SOG member's were attached to USARV and were allowed to wear that SSI with Gold on Black tab for current then service.
However some SOG members used MACV as a combat patch with Gold on red tab.
Of course SF individuals ignored this and wore SF SSI any way!
However anything could be when your dealing with individuals and tattoo
That is a great photo. Thank you for posting it and thank you for your service.
I bought a bomb blast style patch similar to yours a few years ago and as usual
it turned out to be fake.
I have a photo very similar to yours that I did several years ago.
Thanks again,
Greg
