I am a recent graduate of St. Lawrence University with my B.A. in History (minor in education), and my Master's in General Education. I am also a NYS certified 7-12 history teacher.
I would describe my teaching philosophy as being "HANDS ON!" While lecture and note taking are "necessary evils" at times, I love sharing relics and conducting group activities, reenactments, skits, debates, etc. with my students. I believe this strategy gets students to put down their ipods and cell phones and gets them interested in the subject! Often, students have only seen the relics I share with them on t.v or in movies and videogames. So many of them really get excited and open up when they can handle a medal or try on a helmet!
When not teaching, I spend my "free time" at the recycling facility that my parents own. I work there as a weigh master and I also try to salvage as many historical objects and pieces of militaria out of the garbage as possible!
