    Hi

    Latest project finally arrived on Monday just gone. I have been waiting three long months for it to turn up and now that it has.........

    .................I'm looking forward to restoring it back to it's former glory.

    It is a 1922 dated cap for pioneer battalion 2 and still has the owners name tag in.

    It has the "crusher" look owing to the fact it has been crushed.

    The peak is broken, missing its chin strap and hole in the crown other wise it's mint

    Ok, Sunday Afternoon well spent.

    First job steam clean the cap to fluff up the wool.

    Next take the surface threads for the repair to the crown

    add second layer to finish the repair

    then reshape and add a wire spring

    the cap had split pin buttons fixing the original chinstrap and the addition was a straight forward replacement. fitted a treat.

    Of course, looking at this shape it is easy to understand why they removed the wire spring so here are some shots without the spring for comparison.

    Nice work Tony, it's always a pleasure to see the results of your skills.

    As a side note, this style of name tag, white with the little stars border usualy worries me but in this case, it's great to see an obviously original one in situ.
