Gents, what would be the timeline here on this neat little cap? I'm thinking by its mousey grey/green band, piping and its insignia a Weimar era cap not far from WWI. Ersatz sweatband, vulkan visor, amalgamated rough wool with cotton cloth liner. I loved this cap and regret having sold it. It came from Manions back in the 80's. All opinions welcome of course, thanks!

Nigel, it would date from the 20's. It is a Stahlhelm cap (w/o the helmet insignia). Nice cap--i can see whey you regret letting this one go.

Nice cap. Always good to see material from the good, old "Stahlhelm".
The two cockades were worn until the later 1920's. On top of the shown cap is the German
black/white/red version; upon the band the black/white Prussian version.
In 1929 some districts started wearing the steel-helmet symbol (Stahlhelm-Bundesvorstandssitzung
from November 23, 1929). The steel-helmet was already worn earlier. In fact during the 10th Front Soldier's
    Day at Munich that year.
The steel-helmet was (officially) replaced by the early NSDAP eagle with September 1933-orders.
