    Good evening,

An album for the Bavarian Infantry Regiment 20 dating from around 1925 and showing the day to day life with some great casual pictures of the soldiers around the barracks, training in the field and larking about.

It also has some great formal poses by the officers of the unit although they remain un-identified at the moment, absolutely no names or indication on the back of the pics to guide us....................sadly.

The album is unusually for a member of the other ranks rather than that of an officer which gives it a lot more of a down to earth and basic feel.

thanks for looking and as a little teaser........can anyone name the town/city photgraphed "at night" !

    Tony

    Thumbs up Super!

    Cool, Spandau!

    Great album mid-Weimar period!
A lot of very spectacular pictures!

Although particularly exciting, I think it was the image of autumn maneuvers, field trips, marches and exercises than the everyday-life of soldiers...

    * * * I noticed they have a new gas masks model 1924, which in those times it was rare at all! Until now, I thought that had not yet established its manufacturing. Because, as seen from the photochronicle: first time the troops receive it in 1929 - in the pioneer-exercises on the river Saale...

More thanks for the pleasant experience!

    Hi Hans

Thanks as ever for your kind words and valued input.

The great thing with original pictures is it helps us challenge pre-conceived ideas and conventions that would, with the help of contemporary sources, appear are not always historically correct. There is always an exception to every rule and the German Army is a mass of contradictions which makes it so interesting.

Nice analysis of the picture with the gas masks btw.

    cheers

    Hi

A new addition to my collection. It shows a member of the provisional reichswehr, IR 20. The new style insignia are shown to the collectors advantage........

    The card is dated 1920.

    cheers
