Reichswehr Caps 1919 -1934

    Hi

The cockades on this cap are incorrect in so much as the national cockade was not worn by the Reichswehr after 1919/20. It was re-introduced in January 1933 upon the demise of the Weimar republic by order of the President... Hindenburg .

The state cockade was always worn on the field cap so the Bavarian cockade is ok and would fit in it's use.

That all said this cap has unusual non standard features that point me to question it's originality. It could be argued as being private purchase example or may well be a civilian cap of that era.

    Hope that helps.

    cheers

    Tony

    Default Reichswehr collection

I would like to see the administrator open up a sub forum just for Reichswehr uniforms and equipment. It appears there is quite a support for it. I have attached a few items from my RW collections. One of which is unique is a Major in IR20, his M-15 Mantel for Provisional Reichswehr 1919-1920,Reichswehr Caps 1919 -1934Reichswehr Caps 1919 -1934Reichswehr Caps 1919 -1934Reichswehr Caps 1919 -1934Reichswehr Caps 1919 -1934

Very nice and sophisticated militaria, far superior to the norm.

Interesting picture this one as it contains the usual joke format of the guys showing off.....but if you look at the mutze they all have the Reichsadler on rather than a cockade and the caps all have the wreath and eagle cockade but no state cockade.

    Early 1920's picture.

Entitled a Sunday without money, which suggests that they stayed in the Kaserne and amused themselves.

Better than making selfies or playing video games.

Thanks as ever for your wonderful photos and your fine taste in securing them for your collection and for us.

No, the Kokarde is stamped metal.

    Keeping the thread ticking over:

Two new pictures. One of a musical theme with an early portrait of a musician maybe but he is wearing a WW1 1915 tunic converted to RW use via addition of insignia. The card is dated 1923 JR 5 and his cap appears to be missing its cockade. Second is a saxon infantry obergefreiter possibly artillery circa 1925.......

plus a musical theme.........marching music for the Army, bought if for the front cover as I can't play but trying to persuade one of my daughters to play the Radetzky March for me as it is such an uplifting tune. Strauss at his best !

This picture is dated March 1920 and sent by "your friend Karl" , one assumes the young man on the front. Freikorps insignia on the collar and technically not part of the Reichswehr his unit may have been absorbed into the RW later on. Note the Imperial cockades still in place and looks like a Hessian or maybe Bavarian cockade on the cap band, any suggestions for the unit appreciated.

    cheers

The collar badges are for Zeitfreiwilliges-Regiments Leipzig, a temporary Freikorps raised during the communist uprisings in Spring 1919.
