Thank you for a post on a rare US Machine Gun. I have never seen an extra 30/06 CHAUCHAT magazine, in my 54 years of collecting, I use to see plenty of the 8m/m Lebel magazines but they have dried up also, and have become expensive.. BILL

Nice!-I believe you are right as many consider this one of the worst designed machineguns of all time!! Still a very cool piece!

My greatest fear is that one day I will die and my wife will sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them

The design is not a good one, but the big problem was poor manufacture-was the subject of a post war French inquiry into war profiteering-the magazine is very different for the rimless .30/06 round, a straight box rather than the complete curve for the wide rimmed Lebel 8mm. A friend of mine built a replica from a mix of actual and made up parts-might be possible to have a mag made up for it for display purposes!
Nice weapon. I have a magazine bag for it. Rich A. in Pa.

Knowledge is power, guard it well.
Looks like one of the problems has been fixed in the American version. Closed box magazine instead of an open French magazine which left the cartridges susceptible to dirt. Unfortunately that was only one issue. Everything I've seen and read talks about parts not even being interchangeable with other guns because of poor machining quality during manufacturing as mention by Lithgow.
