    Hi folks,

This just arrived in the mail from SOG. It's a 1941 dated rifle that looks extremely rough in terms of finishing... This rifle was made when the Soviets were struggling against the Germans and being pushed back to the gates of Moscow. The finishing definitely shows that they were only concerned with rushing soldiers, arms, and equipment to the front.

The rifle appears to be all serial numbers matching except for the butt plate and all Izhevsk except for the rear barrel band spring. It also has a field repair by the nose cap, and a crack in the stock by the butt plate... I'm really happy with this rifle. It shows A LOT of character... I just wish it could talk!

I stripped down the rifle and found an area of rust under the wood line, but it wasn't too bad and was easy to neutralize.

I am giving this rifle to my best friend for Christmas. I want him to learn the rifle, so it's still covered in cosmoline. However, it appears that the bore is in good shape... just swimming in orange stuff!

So, what do you folks think?

You've got a real nice one. The stock on that one reminds of my 42 Izhevsk's stock, but yours is darker than mine. Your friend will defiantly love the rifle. Might have to do this for my brother for my brother as pre deployment gift of some sort.

Lol, you are the 1,000,000th person to be fooled by my "grass". It's actually a left-over segment of field turf from the new NY Giant's football stadium. Our recycling facility has a contract with the company that made the turf and my dad scored a segment to put over our deck.

'Give the gift that keeps on giving...'

As far as the cosmoline goes nothing beats the bath that the ex Yugoslav Mausers have but if you want them to last 50-70 years...

lol, I opened up the box, checked out the rifle and immediately got jealous!

I'd love to have this in my collection, but I know my buddy will appreciate it, so I'm glad. We shoot together all the time, so I'll be able to enjoy it, too!
