1943 Springfield M1 Garand

Hello everybody! Its been several years since Ive posted here, but Ive recently acquired something to share!

A 1943 Springfield Armory M1 Garand shooter! 1.7 million serial # puts it built July of 1943. It has been re-arsenaled previously with a postwar barrel. All of the major parts are stamped SA (as they should be). I know it has seen the Korean peninsula as the sling is a Korean replacement, and the barrel has a Blue Sky Arlington,VA reimport stamp likely from the 1980s. It was refinished when reimported I believe, due to the receiver looking decent for being so old, and "183" written on the stock and receiver. I do not have erosion gauges to check it, although I know it shoots decently having fired it myself.

The barrel is stamped SA, P(proof), M (MPI ?) and a worn DOD squared eagle. The bore is fairly decent, not a sewer pipe by any means. The gas system has an M stamp just behind the gas plug. The oprod is marked SA and has an L stamped on it above the charging handle. Trigger pack and hammer are marked SA aswell. Bolt is marked SA, but is an SA ordered replacement by the previous owner.

The stock is pretty rough, it has no visible cartouches, many dings/gouges and a large exterior crack that does not go much past the surface. I already had the m1 cleaning kit bag in my possession, as it was my grandfathers. Its missing the multi tool, chamber brush and oil bottle.

Very nice pick up!

Nothing shoots like an M1. Might not be as accurate as a bolt but I prefer it over any other battle rifle (softer on my shoulder )

My step father still deer hunts with the M1 he brought back from Korea.

Ive been able to determine the major parts on the gun are period correct, 42-45, other than the sling, barrel and stock. Interestingly, the lot number on my receiver doesnt match whats known on a very comprehensive website. It falls between two lots, I wonder if it was a stamping mistake?
Barrel - SA6535448 8 66 BU32 P M (Dod stamp)
Puts the barrel made August 1966. Good shape, but bad for correctness.

Thanks for sharing a nice example with us. Only thing I know is prices for M-1 Garands have increased greatly the last few years. In fact most World War 2 firearms are commanding decent money. Don't even want to bring up P-08 prices!

With the CMP being sold out for the foreseeable future, I predict they will continue to rise. Im now on the hunt for a ww2 m1 carbine as my grandfather held a Marksman qualification for one, and expert for an MG, but my state doesnt allow such fun things.

I hear ya sunset. My state is tough too. Handguns must be compliant before being legal for sale. Believe my neighbor got a Garand from that CMP a while back. Looking forward to firing it at my club. Rather have the M-1 carbine myself also.

Look up the CA safe handgun roster. It will make you cry. The fools that run this state are slowly banning everything. A current bill theyre trying to pass will turn m1as and 30 carbines into "assault weapons" (another bogus term).

WHY have you blocked out the lase 3 digits on the rifles ser nr??? You afraid it is a stolen rifle and someone will recognize their ser nr??? Hell If I had a rifle stolen and what you showed matched that much of my ser nr you would get a visit from the local Polizei to check it out!
