Looks like a great piece to me Mine is counter-bored as well, but they still shoot as straight as ever.

Should still be a good shooter. Don't forget that they were made to shoot with the bayonet extended. Shooting it with the barrel stowed puts prussure on the barrel and it can pull the bullets pretty extremely to the right.

There are Tula-made M44's? I actually thought that they were all made by Ishevsk.

If I remember correctly, Tula made them for exactly 1yr... so they're a lot more rare.

My understanding is that the M44s that carry the Tula star were M1938s that were converted to 44s - and were also done at the Izhevsk plant.

Sorry it took so long for me to post this... I shot my M44 for the first time on Thanksgiving. WOW, SO FUN TO SHOOT!
Here is photo of the last shot we took with it at twilight... Yes, I know I need a modern cell phone...
