98k 660 1940 Looking for info

New to this forum,but looks like this is the place for accurate information.Purchased this rifle a couple of years ago,was looking for Polish Mausers,and the lower sling cut out in the stock caught my eye.Was surprised to see this was a German 98k and not Polish.Not owning any all matching rifles,purchased this one for $600.This was at a military collectible show and the dealer also had an Italian helmet with German decals on it ,that was brought back with the rifle by the veteren he bought it from.According to him,they were aquired at a liberated POW camp in northern Italy just before the war ended. Any way the numbers all match,including the stock.Do not know what P.H.250 on stock washer stands for.Came with sling,rod ,bayonet and sight hood. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

This 660 code 1940 98k was assembled by Steyr in Austria..The additional rear sling attachment bar was added post war by the French, so the standard French rifle sling could be utilized.. The meaning of the stock disk markings are unknown to me.. But many 660 and bnz (later code for Styer) 98Ks had the stock disk marked O or N for Kriegsmarine (Navy) property.. O= Ost (East) Sea, N= North Sea... Check the right rear of the stock to see if there is a Eagle Swastika 'M' which would denote German Navy useage...BILL

Thanks for the info.The stock disc is unusual in size.Standard 98k washer is approx.1.225" wide,this disk is approz.1.010" wide. This is also the width of standard Polish wz29 rifle. Have posted pictures of 660 98k,along side a German 98k .Then in second picture along side of Polish wz29. Just wondering if Styer used some other Polish rifle parts other than receivers. There is no M on right side of stock,just the H mark.In Ball's "Mauser Military Rifles of the World"third edition,page 184 ,there is a photo of a similar stock washer marked P.H.228. Ball also calls this a Navy mark.A friend of mine who collects German police items,speculated it could be a Police ownership mark.
