Hi, im watching Aliens 2, i have seen it dozens of times but only now i noticed one thing.
The smart gun was built using an MG, most likely a Yugo.

Hello,
That's really interesting, the gun is a German Mg42, and not a Yugo M53.
It's a fairly early one as well.
I wish it was a M53!
I will have a go at pointing out why.
You see where the flash hider screws on, the end of the barrel jacket/receiver tapers in and out slightly.
There are two rows of small holes there.
These holes only appear on Mg42s, and were dropped as production went on.
The holes were never on the M53s.
You can't see the usual give away, the AA sight bracket.
A picture might help!
The top one is a dfb 1943 with holes, underneath is a bnz 1944 without holes.
Jonathan.
Cool thread!....
The Mauser C96 was modified and used in other sci-fi films too.
James Cameron trailed a lot of machine guns for aliens to find out what machine gun had the best muzzle flash and the mg42 won hands down
Check 02:00. It's Mg42. Hope this can help.
Edit: I don't know why, the youtube vid is error in here.
Here's the link instead [Aliens] [1986] [Making Of] [2003] [V] [9/25] - YouTube .
Remember the Stormtroopers MG34 based weapon from the early Star Wars films.
Every thing runs in circles.
All the best
Dave
Even more impressive than the MG42!!!!!
I believe the swivel mount for this fantasy gun that Collonial Marines Drake and Vasguez are weilding were adapted from 'Steady Cam' set ups used by cameramen in the film industry, My useless bit of info for the day............"Their coming outta the G**d*m walls...Lets Rock"
