The M3 9mm conversion kits, a much lesser amount than 25000, used a Sten magazine.

The 9mm M3's the OSS dropped in Europe were manufactured in 9mm especially for the OSS.

I know it used a Sten compatible mag, BUT the 9mm magazines made in the states were a U.S. copy of the sten mag, which for all intents and purposes was a smaller version of the M3 .45 mag.

The way the mag lips are formed, and the way the back of the mag is formed sure looks like an M3.....

Hi Matt, here there are my four sten magazines, they are deactivated for italian law.
    After WoodyUK's measures I think that your is from a MP40 .

    hello kanister,

yes, i think we don't have a positive match with these too.

    a) the "wings" on mine where you feed the ammo are parallel and same measure
    b) the small window to hook withe the mag rellease button is different

Having owned several live M-3 Grease Guns I can quite positively say that Bill and PMKS are correct. This is a bog standard Grease Gun magazine.

finally i can compare it with some standard MP mags. And the pics are surprising, at least for me. You can see that the mag is a bit oversized , compared with the others. I am also puzzled with the caliber, since I tried it with a 45 ACP round and didn't fit

    Hello again Zeller,
I've looked more closely at my Sten mags and attached some pictures. I'd not noticed the variations in them until reading your post, although I knew there were different manufacturers marks.
    From left to right in the group of six mags;
1; Has holes to count rounds inside.
2; Has holes which have filled with grease, I've stuck a cocktail
stick in one hole to illustrate.
3&4; Have holes soldered or welded closed. I'm guessing that this may be to keep sand or dust from getting into the mag. Perhaps for use in desert conditions? Someone in the forum may be able to confirm or deny this?
5&6 Have no holes at all.
I hope this is of some interest.
    Cheers,
    navyman.

as requested here are some measurements

    side view
    lenghth 35 mm
    width 20 mm
upper part (feeder ?) width 10 mm
    total heighth 270 mm

I tested it again with a 45 acp ammo and I now believe that it's matching. Since it's completely blocked by rust I could only put it on top.

PS - the live ammo is legally detained.
