My Craigslist classified WTB ad brought this in last week.

It's not pretty - but it was CHEAP.

*FYI - CL has delivered several swords, dress daggers, etc - but, recently, three persistent emails from character wanting to sell me a Boyes rifle his grandfather supposedly left him.
For Overseas residents - The Boyes rifle in .55 is an NFA item (destructive device) if transferable (meaning registered before 1968), it is contraband if unregistered.
I told him to surrender it to law enforcement, but the guy emailed three times asking me to come pick it up, I could have it - in my opinion (based on the language he was using in the email) it was a trap and an offensively obvious one at that - so if you run a WTB ad on CL be aware.
I asked if the barrel had been relined to .50, he knew enough to say it hadn't and was in the original .55 - that was the red-flag - IMO if he knew enough to determine that, he knew it was contraband.
Follow the letter of the law - or else.

    Nice rifle friend.
Yea. The ATF is far to busy trying to set up honest citizens rather than busting real criminals. What a bunch of turds.

You should have offered to come take a look at it, just to make sure he had what he thinks he does.

I don't even collect British firearms - the last thing I want is some foolish action on my part losing me my privileges.
*If it had been a Solothurn 20mm - I might have gotten myself in trouble - lol

It's not really archeology, that's not really possible here - but it's fun.
