Article about: Gent, could someone tell me how to determinate the year of item's production by the number, please ? I tried to google it but no luck so far.

    U.S. weapons normally have barrels with a date stamp, normally the month and last 2 digits of the year and the flaming ordnance bomb emblem... Unless the weapon has been rebarreled, the barrel stamp should give you a general idea of when it was made.

    HI GIZMO8Z, thanks but most of them were re-barrelled to 7.62 NATO afaik. Anyway in UK it's going to be a butchered then put together piece. You see I found a reference web-site for the garand rifle, but nothing about the BARs.

    I figured as much! I thought I'd start with the most basic way to date an American WWI/ WWII firearm... Let me ask on another forum and I'll get back to you.

    Sorry this took so long...

    According to a member on another forum that I'm a member of:
    WWI BARs were made by COLT, WINCHESTER, & MARLIN ROCKWELL. Thats all you need to know.
