I think this Mauser gives an insight into the quality of the rifles built at Oberndorf prior to the Second World War.

That's exceptional. Very rare to find a 1930's Mauser of any pedigree in that sort of condition. I assume the bore would be equally pristine.

Excellent example of the type there!-Brazil changed calibres to the US .30-06 from 7 x 57mm pretty soon after these and their VZ24 equivalents were bought in the mid '30s so there were numbers of them unissued/unused in the 'war stocks' until they were sold off in the 1980s.

and to think they all once looked like that back in the day until they went into the field of battle.

    Very Nice example Didier

You are right : the bore is spotless, as this rifle has probably never been shot apart from the original three test shots at the Mauser factory in 1937.

These were shipped to Brazil in April 1937 inside zinc containers. Some of them were reimported by Frankonia Waffen Würzburg (hence the FWW stamp) in the mid-1970s : the crates had never been opened until then and had acted as "time-capsules" - the rifles, together with their slings, bayonets, muzzle covers and test targets were found to be in the exact condition they were in when they had left the Mauser factory for Brazil some forty years before.
