Google "Brown Bess", and then click on the wikipedia page. Lots of spot on info there that is too much to explain here!!

Could it be an Indian pattern? The build quality is not as good as Colt 45's example.

    Hi Benno,

In my humble opinion, it would appear to be an Indian copy, they still make them today to look old. I hope I am wrong, but.......

    Hi Grant,

I think you've got it! Wasn't aware they were being faked these days, but now you point it out, it makes a lot of sense. Quality appears crap even for those days,( sorry Mark!) a bit like the Spanish flintlock fakes that started to appear in the mid sixties... Just look at the total lack of any contempary manufacturing procedures.Hard to explain, but look at the photo's of this one and Colt 45's, the chasm is yawning. No offence meant, just my two penn'orth worth!!

    Kind Regards, Ned.

On first impressions I think I agree with the above comments, I'll have a look at my two when I get home, but somethin just doesn't look quite right.
