Article about: I am still 100% certain that this was a RE modified weapon. The fact that the picture is taken in the Hill 60 museum where mining was at its peak would back this up. Sappers cut them down be

    Something else to add to the saga of the chopped SMLE's.... A converted Gew98, although it is unknown when this was done. Currently for sale on the Arundel Militaria website.

    I just found these images and thought I’d resurrect this old thread. Note the cut down rifles on the back board.

    Regimental Sergeant Major D C M Glenister of West Ham and Sergeant R Baldry from West Hartlepool, both serving in the Corps of Military Police, with a collection of weapons confiscated from displaced persons. It was illegal at this time for civilians to hold weapons of any kind. Germany 1945

    Interesting to see the 2 rifles leaning against the front of the table-woodwork cut down. but still with intact length barrels!

    Looks like a copy of the Mk5 Enfield designed to burst eardrums and break shoulders.
