No, I can't enlarge the pics-the markings on the side of the chamber are commercial proof marks for civilian sale-the action body is where the bolt sits inside-the factory markings and serial number are there on the left hand side or should be unless someone has ground them off.

    Hi Yab,
And yes the ebay has stopped selling bayo,s and most weapons here in the U.K, but still sell them in europe. Sometimes i really get angry with the rules in the U.K, they treat us like kids.

Precisely, that is why I'm looking for a friend in the US, so I would buy him a beer and he would bid for a bayo on e.com for me .

Yab, your rifle is correctly known as a Lee Enfield No.4 Mk1 rather than Mk4 No.1, the Mk4 or MkIV was a .22 SMLE version.

Cocking piece is marked 'W & S' = Ward and Sons, Birmingham so probably a British production rifle-ROF (Royal Ordinance Factory) Maltby, ROF Fazakerley or BSA Shirley assuming the bolt is original to the rifle.

PS the rear sights are the Mk2 'flip' 2 position battle sights-usually fitted to US Savage Stevens made rifles but of course could have been refitted to your rifle at any time over the last 70 years or so.
