I would say the DP28 is far to heavy to attempt to fire from the shoulder, you just would not be able to balance it even for a few seconds .. although there are images of soviet troops advancing with the DP28 at the hip ... firing it in a loose fashion ...

Shooting from the shoulder is only in the laying position. In running position by carring the MG for the leggs, no other ways to hold the mashinegun- steel parts are very hot. By shooting with mashinegun from the laying position and by changing the fire sides from left to right- keep your left hand away from the bolt section, the cartridge shells will damage your hand ( as usual two of the fingers area)
This what I can say using this gun in re-enactments.
