    Thanks, Scout!

I'm not worried at all! My Type 38 entered my collection in almost exact condition.

The only thing I'm slightly worried about is finding the proper recoil lug and action screw to replace what is missing.
No problem - give NUMRICH a call and Bob's your uncle.

    Thanks, Steve!

I'm kind of glad it was given to me in this condition... the elbow grease I put into it will make it all the more meaningful to me

The bayonet is interesting... It's completely devoid of all markings that I can see. The quillon also has a spot weld repair.

Numrich has the front trigger guard screw I need for $3.50 and I think the recoil lug I need for $9.50...

You are SO lucky they are that close ! - I heard they will not send

I was actually there last week! I introduced myself to Bill, the guy behind the retail counter.

I've just found out some cool stuff!

My rifle was made by the Toyo Kogyo Arsenal in Hiroshima Prefectur. Toyo Kogyo is now known as Mazda! My girlfriend drives a Mazda 3!

The 35th Series was the last series made by Toyo Kogyo... with production ending on August 6th, 1945 at about 7:00AM local time when the Enola Gay and "Little Boy" visited Hiroshima.

I am still waiting to hear back from experts, but it appears that my rifle was made in May or June, 1945...

An amazing piece of history! So proud to have it!!

    Thanks a lot, Ade!

I'm going to start the restoration today. I'll clean out the bore and start tackling the rust.

In terms parts, all I need is the front action screw and the recoil lug. If Numrich has the correct parts, it's just a matter of driving there. If not, I'll have to search the internet.

This particular series could accept dust covers, but were never issued with them. This rifle doesn't even have provisions to add a cleaning rod. So, no sweat about finding those!

At this point I am sort of more concerned about finding parts for the bayonet.
