French Model 1916 Carbine (Mousqueton d'Artillerie M.16)..Was adopted for service on November 11, 1916.. This is not a modified version of a older Carbine but a new Model..Five shot magazine and a wooden handguard was adopted on these weapons... Many of the older 1890 and 1892 Berthier carbines were upgraded to this model, by various French Arsenals ..Pictured with this weapon is the 5 round clip and two drilled 8mm Lebel rounds that the GI brought home with the 1916 Carbine.. The 5 shot clip had 5 drilled rounds in it but they are scattered some where upstairs..enjoy BILL

These French weapons have always interested me. In Afghanistan, I saw a couple of Berthier rifles at flea markets and regret not getting one. I did scarf up three variations of the spike bayonets though.
