a very nice clean example imo.

It's a Soviet capture rifle. These are easy to detect with the importer's marking, the 'X' on the receiver and the left side butt stock numbering going horizontally. It looks like a Mitchell's Mausers rifle with the re-numbering of components to match.

Looks like a good looking RC K98. Definitely a Russian Capture but not too sure if it's force matched. What's surprising is the numbers weren't pinged out. The RC's I've seen had the original serial numbers pinged and a new serial number added, which is not the case here. If it's a Mitchell Mauser, they may have added numbers to force match. There are K98 collectors here that may see your thread and settle a few more questions.

It does seem that ANY condition K98 is beginning to be collectable and this one isn't a bad example in my opinion.

Well, most of the RCs had the swastika pinged off and were forced matched with electro pencil. In think most of these were done in Ukraine though. So this one appears to be a more in tact example. It could have been immediate given to a soviet ally post war. You're still looking at a $500 value.

I'd say it's not a mitchell because they tend to 'pimp shine' the bolt.

It also looks like the stock has been sanded so as to get that fresh from the factory blonde look.

EDIT: I should add that it's from the Mauser Oberndorf factory. byf is the code for that factory.

Not bad tony. R/C for sure. How did you acquire this rifle if I may ask? Yeah as stated above the Mitchells are usually pimp shined bolts. Value on mix-matchers is up from a few years back. Yours looks nicer than one I had. Mine was also a BYF 44 mixmatcher but the swastikas remained unpeened. Possible romanian capture. thanks for posting.

Looking at the import stamp, I think it could have come in the country through Mitchell's Mausers. But I could be wrong.
It is a nice looking Mauser!
